Dave excused Wendy and she is attending the Annual ICC Code
Change/Business Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Also excused was
Charlie Powell who is attending a Utah State Business Meeting. He
welcomed everyone to today’s meeting, thanked Charlie and Skip for
getting today’s lunch (chicken, salad, & drinks) and Orem City for
being in charge of this month’s meeting. Skip indicated that he is
working on and will have everyone’s CEU’s ready for 2006, 2007, and
2008 and will have these certificates ready to hand out at the
December 10th lunch meeting to be held at Cabelas.
Paul Ashton, Orem City Inspector and Annual Beehive Chapter
Instructor @Aspen Grove Spring Training, was introduced by Dave to
lead today’s open forum discussion.
The first item was the use of Tempered Glass in a 2nd
floor window, 72" above outside finished grade and over 18" above
inside finished grade, located in a bedroom/den window seat. Does is
need to be tempered? The 20+ inspectors in attendance voted that
this does not pose a problem and does not need to have tempered
glass.
Next topic was fiberglass window wells–Does this require a ladder
for egress or can people climb out? Inspectors voted the need for a
ladder reaching from the bottom of the window well.
Third topic was a discussion on stucco. Is expanded wire mesh
required under artificial stone. There was a split vote on this one
with the consensus being that the installation had to follow the
manufacturer’s requirements/recommendations. Everyone did agree that
a weather barrier, counter flashing, and caulking was required prior
to the installation of the veneer. Also mentioned was the use of
some unlisted foam insulation that was not performing as
expected–result purchase a listed product only!
Final item was one from Don Blackburn, Heber City, and he
wondered about an existing Walmart expansion. If there is an
occupancy separation can it be looked at as two (2) separate
builings or is it one (1) building? Decision from the other
inspectors was to refer to Table 503 Allowable Height & Building
Areas & Table 508.3.3 Required Separation of Occupancies.
This coming Wednesday, the 15th, Tooele is in charge
and the topic is draft stops. Dave Gillette has made
arrangements for Chris Garcia, SLC Fire Department, to come and
speak to us. Check out Section 717 Concealed Spaces 2006 IBC
and maybe bring your 2006 IFC to this meeting too. I also
have a question–Does anyone really read these minutes? If so,
let me know by email, first five responders will win a prize (yet to
be determined). Many thanks to Bruce for helping me with these
minutes!
